Data Analyst Resume Example
Data analyst resumes fail in a specific way: they describe tools instead of decisions. A hiring manager already assumes you can write SQL — what they cannot tell from a tool list is whether your analysis ever changed what the business did.

What a data analyst resume has to prove
Write each bullet so it ends somewhere. Not "built a churn dashboard", but who used it, what they did differently, and what moved. That is the whole difference between an analyst and a report generator, and it is the only thing the resume can prove.
Professional summary example
Four lines at the top of the page. Lead with the shape of your experience, then one result that proves it.
Data analyst with 4 years in subscription and marketplace businesses. Built the churn model that reallocated a ₹40 lakh retention budget, and own the SQL and dbt layer behind the exec dashboard. Strongest where the question is still vague and needs to be turned into something measurable.
Achievement bullet points
Written the way this role is measured. Swap the numbers for yours — keep the shape.
- Identified that 3 of 11 acquisition channels drove 80% of 90-day churn; reallocating spend cut blended CAC by 22% over two quarters
- Rebuilt the revenue model in dbt, cutting month-end close from 4 days of manual reconciliation to a 20-minute scheduled run
- Designed the experiment framework behind 30+ pricing and onboarding A/B tests, including the power calculations that stopped three underpowered tests from shipping
- Automated a weekly board report that had taken 6 analyst-hours, freeing roughly 300 hours a year for analysis
- Trained 15 non-technical staff on self-serve dashboards, reducing ad-hoc data requests by 45%

Mistakes that sink data analyst resumes
- Listing tools with no result attached. Everyone applying has Tableau on their resume.
- Reporting volume instead of impact — "built 40 dashboards" says nothing about whether any were used.
- Omitting the business domain. Retention analysis in fintech and in e-commerce are different jobs, and recruiters filter on it.
- Hiding the statistics. If you ran the significance testing yourself, say so; it separates you from the dashboard-only pile.
