The letters that stand out cite a specific result — a pass rate, a scheme of work still in use, a programme you built — tied to the exact subject and grade band the school is hiring for.

Mistakes that sink teacher cover letters
- Writing generically about a "passion for education" instead of naming the subject, grade band and curriculum you're actually qualified for.
- Omitting outcome data — pass rates, score improvements — when you have it. Schools screen for evidence, not enthusiasm alone.
- Not addressing the specific curriculum (IB, CBSE, IGCSE) the school uses, which is often the first filter a hiring committee applies.
- Leaving out classroom management or differentiation entirely — a strong subject background alone doesn't answer whether you can run a room.
