Modern Resume Template

Modern splits the page in two: a filled colour band down the left holds your contact details, skills and languages, and the wider right column carries your profile, experience, education and projects. Because the sidebar is a solid block of colour, the accent you choose becomes the first thing a recruiter registers.

How the Modern layout works

The two-column split is doing real work here, not just decoration. Skills and contact details are short, repetitive lines that waste a full page width; moving them into a narrow rail buys three or four extra lines of experience on the same sheet — usually the difference between a resume that fits on one page and one that spills onto a second.

Who Modern suits

  • Software, product and design roles where a little visual confidence reads as current rather than risky
  • Anyone with a long skills list that would otherwise eat half the page
  • Career changers who want the profile paragraph to sit high and be read first

When to pick something else: Very traditional fields — law, academia, government, most finance — still expect a single column. Classic or Executive land better there.
